FROM PLOT TO STORY – PLANNING THE PERFECT CRIME (Novel)
With Alan Beechey
"At last, a plot!" was the mystery writer's epitaph, according to the old
joke. But when you're writing a mystery novel, the plot - or the idea for
one - generally comes first. So how do you take that germ of a story and
nurture it into an appropriately structured narrative? This workshop looks
at the decisions you probably need to make before you start writing your
mystery. We'll look at the way authors choose their settings and characters,
select a point of view and a structure, pace their scenes, and wield clues
and red herrings to thrill and bamboozle their audience. It's MapQuest for
the mystery.
