Frequently Asked Questions:

1)Is it acceptable to approach agents and editors at the Conference to introduce my work?


Yes! This is a social networking opportunity. We encourage you to speak openly about your work.


2)What if I have special dietary requests because of food allergies?


Unicorn Writers’ Conference has posted the menu that will be served at the conference. If you have a special need that requires attention, we will discuss it with the Chef, however, we cannot guarantee that they will be able to assist.


3)What public transportation will take me to St. Clement’s Castle?

There are two ways to get from Meriden, CT to New York City by rail.


Option 1- you can take Amtrak's Vermonter Service from there to Penn Station. The one-way fare will cost you $51 ($102 round trip).


Option 2 - you can take the Amtrak's New Haven-Springfield Shuttle, from Meriden to New Haven-Union Station, where a connection can be made to Metro-North's New Haven Line, which will take you the rest of the way to New York. Metro-North New Haven Line trains don't terminate at Penn Station, instead they terminate at Grand Central Terminal on the East Side of Manhattan. The one-way fare on the New Haven-Springfield Shuttle from Meriden to New Haven will cost you $36 ($72 round trip) and a round trip off peak ticket on the Metro-North's New Haven Line from New Haven to the City will cost you $28.

5)If I can’t be there exactly at 8:00, what will I miss?


Breakfast is scheduled from 8-9 A.M. The Keynote speaker is on from 9-10 A.M.


6)Is there WiFi on site the day of the conference?


Yes, Saint Clements is equipped with WiFi for guests. 


7)Will there be laptops available for use by attendees?


No, the computers available at the conference are for guest speakers, workshops, and staff use only. Attendees may bring their own computers if they wish.  Unicorn Writers’ Conference and Saint Clements castle accepts no responsibility for attendee’s computers and electronic devices.


8)Will I receive a confirmation once my registration fee is paid?


Yes, you will receive an email confirmation. If you have registered and have not received this confirmation, please call us at 914-921-1159


9)When should I choose which workshops I want to attend?


You should select your workshops and plan out your day after you have received the time slots and confirmed your one-to-one sessions. If you are just attending the conference, you are free to choose any hourly workshops throughout the day. The Query Letter and Synopsis Workshops are the only exceptions and both require pre-registration.


10)How will I know what time my 1-1 manuscript review will take place?


You will receive confirmation from E-tix when you book your sessions. If you are unsure of your session time or have any concerns, please contact us at 914-921-1159. Workshop descriptions are disclosed on the workshop page of this site. These descriptions will enable you select the workshops that best suite your writing career.


11)What if my 1-1 review is scheduled during a workshop I want to attend?


We have a program that is packed with exceptional workshop offerings. It will take some thought to design the day to your best advantage. You must choose carefully based of your needs and goals as a writer. Please be advised that DVD’s of some of the earlier workshops will be on sale the day of the conference and all of them will be available for purchase on our website www.unicornwritersconference.com 


12)May I request which agent, editor, or speaker I would like for my 1-1 review?


Yes, by registering through Etix you will be able to choose the agent, editor and/or speaker that you would like to discuss your manuscript with during your 1-1 session.


13)How will I know if my 1-1 review will be scheduled with the person I requested?


You will receive an email confirmation. If you do not receive this confirmation, please contact us at 914-921-1159.


14)Once I am scheduled for a 1-1 review, may I change the agent/editor/speaker with whom I am scheduled?


No, please choose carefully. Once you are booked with an editor, agent, or speaker, you cannot change to another or cancel the purchase. The $45 per one-to-one session is non-refundable.


15)How will I know which agent, editor and/or speaker would be the right choice to speak with regarding my work for a 1-1 manuscript review session?


You can click here to view the genre chart that lays out the information on who represents what. We highly recommend that you take the time to review the credentials and biographies of the agents, editors, and speakers on this site.


16)Is there a limit to how many 1-1 reviews I may schedule?


No, there is no limit. You can schedule as many sessions as you wish or are available. Be watchful of conflicts with the Query Letter Workshop and the Synopsis Workshop if either or both are of interest to you.


17)Do I have to book a 1-1 review in order to attend?


No, you do not need to book a 1-1 session to attend the conference.


18)For on-site purchases–T-shirts, DVD’s, books–may I use a credit card, and which credit cards will be accepted?


Cash, check, and PayPal may be used to purchase T-shirts, DVD’s, and books on the day of the conference, as well as through our website: www.unicornwritersconference.com


19)How can I buy books, DVD’s, or T-shirts after the Conference is over?


You can purchase them through the website: www.unicornwritersconference.com


20)Will speakers autograph their books that are purchased the day of the Conference?


Yes, keynote speakers will be signing books at the conference for a limited time after the luncheon.


21)What is the latest date I can register for the 2012 Conference?


You can register for the conference until it is announced that it has been sold out.


22)What is the latest date I can cancel my attendance for the 2012 Conference?


March 28, 2012


23)If I must cancel my attendance, will I get a refund?


Yes, if the cancellation is prior to March 28, 2012


24)What should I bring with me to the Conference?


Bring any materials that would assist you in promoting your career and product.

25)Is it advisable to arrive the night before?


Yes, if you are staying in a hotel nearby. The conference begins at 7:30 A.M.


26)Is the Conference appropriate for high school and college students?


Of course, writing and reading are ageless!


27)I’m sending my seventeen-year-old granddaughter to the conference. Do I need to stay with her?


That is entirely up to you.


28)Do I have to have a book in progress to attend?


No, the conference is useful for beginning writers, published authors, or just interested readers.


29)What if I’ve never written anything before, but I am interested in getting started?


We welcome you and hope that you will find inspiration and valuable direction as you get started on your writing career path.


30)I’ve had three books published. Will this conference be worth my time?


Yes, this conference is definitely worth your time. The world of publishing is ever changing. It is our hope that the workshop offerings for our more experienced attendees will assist in navigating the changing waters, including technologies, social media, and self promotion.


31)Is St. Clement’s Castle handicap accessible?

32)What should I wear?


The conference is casual, but professional. Present yourself knowing that you are in a professional atmosphere, in the company of leading executives within the book publishing industry.
